Bristol-Myers Squibb (Princeton, New Jersey)
In November 1995, LSC installed a system at Bristol-Myers Squibb Company in Princeton, New Jersey, where its Pharmaceutical Research Institute designs formulas for pharmaceutical products. The system is connected to 70 Silicon Graphics IRIS workstations, each with 10 gigabytes of local storage, which scientists use to conduct most of their research. In addition to the Silicon Graphics workstations, the system manages stored data which resides on a Cray C94 supercomputer. Bristol-Myers Squibb required that the storage management be open and scalable. Because the IDS/SAM-FS utilizes industry standard protocols and records data in non-proprietary format, LSC was able to ensure that the system would support a variety of operating systems well into the future. The system has a storage capacity of 108 gigabytes of magnetic cache and over 3.6 terabytes of DLT robotic tape storage.
